Hi Don,

What I did was cut a piece from a 2X6 that ended up being 1 X 1 1/4" (so it would be oval). Then I used a 3/4" radius bit in a molding head cutter on my table saw. It worked great. Only took a couple minutes to get a oval shaft. To make a round shaft, just start with a square piece of stock. This is the same idea of using the router bit.
