Without going into details, George tries to/does minimize the % of wood and epoxy weight and maximize the % of glass weight in the layup. For this and other reasons, he uses multiple layers of lighter weight cloth. (it takes less epoxy to wet and fill the light cloth) He may correct me but, I think he mainly uses 3 oz cloth and MAS epoxy. Don't know the numbers of layers for given locations.

For my current project (canoe) I am trying some of "his" methods. 4 layers of 2oz in the football and 2 layers elsewhere on both sides. (used 4oz plain around the ends) Wood started at 3/16+", and with sanding should approach 1/8".

BTW, Raka sells both 3 and 2 oz tight weave glass. It looks good and arrived in good condition. (The glass from Defender was distorted and contaminated.) I used System 3 Clear Coat to wet, it worked fine. I've heard a report that Raka doesn't wet the 2 oz well.
