Toni Buying a first kayak by reading is like buying a car without driving or selecting a spouse without dating. If you analyze too much you will be become too confused. Everyone has their own comfort level and abilities and you have to start somewhere and find out what they are. Get a kayak based on low price and start learning what it is all about. As you progress, you will learn to appreciate the unique characteristics of different designs and what fits your style. As long as it floats you should enjoy it. I built one of the wooden kits and learn more each time I take it out. Someday I'll design my own, but for now either choice would be an source of pleasure.

Good luck Jeff
