I took a mold from an existing fiberglass seat by coating the seat with paste wax, and then PVA mold release over that. I then used a few layers of glass and epoxy to form the mold. I've documented the process on my website (http://ross.secant.com/kayak).

I'm not certain that the graphite will provide much abrasion protection. What it will do is show scratches much more than a lighter color (wood) rail.
