Shawn is correct, I did not intend the double have the recessed cockpit. However, there are benefits to making the recess. It makes installation of the coaming lip easier because it reduces the vertical curvature of the coaming. This makes it so you don't need to try to bend the coaming material in as many directions at once. It also lowers the coaming a little which can make paddling more comfortable for smaller people.

To make a recess around the cockpit you can just elongate the cockpit pattern slightly. Draw on the regular cockpit in its proper location, then shift the pattern forward a couple inches retrace the front of the pattern until it meets the existing line and then shift it backwards a few inches and trace the back.

Take a look at the side view. You would like the recess to sweep up evenly when viewed from the side. Adjust the line until it looks good.
