I have great difficulty in imagining how one could properly fair a strip seakayak of the Guillemot type, for example, without resorting to an extremely sharp block plane and leaving ones feet buried in shavings. The subsequent sanding with a random orbit sander or, at that point, by hand, can produce results consistant with a brown egg shell. Sanding, wether by hand or machine, without the elimination of the finite polygon created by the joining of a series of 3/4" planes leaves, in my opinion, something to be desired.
