Just Kidding! Hi Roger, Instead of plywood spacers on my Chesapeake 17 coaming, I glued 2" blocks of 3/4" x 3/4" Mahogany all the way around the cockpit. Then, I smoothed everything up and glued on the one-piece, 6mm top ring. I used the blocks because I don't really like the look of edge-grain plywood all that much. (and in my obviously biased opinion, it looks pretty damn good--not to mention that I picked up 3/4" scraps of mahogany free from work!) Once the epoxy was cured between all the blocks, it made for a really stiff riser that didn't flex at all when I glued down the top ring.

I have to agree with David too, the sides (straight lines) of the coaming do make the sprayskirt a bit loose. I even built a custom skirt that matched the shape of my coaming, still the bungies don't really "pull in" on the straight sections.
