Microspheres are just what they sound like, tiny hollow balls of glass or phenolic plastic. The walls are very thin, so density and strength are both low. Imagine concrete made with light bulbs instead of rocks, and the picture will come into focus.

Cabosil particles under magnification look like snowflakes, so when you mix them with epoxy they interlock with each other and prevent the epoxy from flowing. They are actually a thixotropic agent if you want to get technical, which means the mix will flow when stirred but not when you leave it alone.
