Actually, the plans tell you rip the 8' pieces of plywood to rough widths, scarf those 8' lengths together and cut each panel from each 16-18' piece.

They tell you to get an extra 3' to account for the length lost in scarfs. Actually, you'd only need an extra foot or so if you're using 10 footers. You use a bit more in scarfs using 8' lengths of sheer clamp material because there are then 2 scarfs per side.
