That sounds very similar to what I have on my CC18. A 3/4" lip on the deck, around the hatch opening, about 9mm above the deck. Then hatch covers that extend beyond it about 1", and foam seal on the cover that fits over the lip, and seals to the deck. Mine leak a little, I think because it's hard to keep the curve going that extra 1-3/4" over the opening where the beam is under it. Also, they squirt water up in my face when I stick the nose into a wave. Angling the lead edge helped that a little. I fasten with bungees underneath, no straps showing. Works nice and looks good. Strip hatched contrast the deck nicely, too. I think if I do it again I'll try the flush trick.
