Fritjof Hello, If the epoxy that you are useing is thin enough to soak through the fiberglass and into the wood (like MAS epoxy) then there is no need to pre coat the wood. The benifit of precoating the wood is that it helps prevent outgassing of the wood which can cause air bubbles under your fiberglass, but if you are careful to epoxy during a time of falling tempature that should not be a big problem. Also if the epoxy you are using is to thick it may have problems wetting the wood through the glass (in which case I would still not use a precoat, I would just thin my epoxy. One more reason for not putting on a precoat is that if the epoxy blushes you may have a poor bond between the two coats.Plus you save wieght when you don't precoat. Kenny
