the yare utilizes every square inch of the 4x8 plywood for the hull without scarfing an extra foot or so. the yare was appealing to me ,as a first time builder , with its single joint along the keel.=1 seem to glass apposed to 3+ less wires to adjust,less weight,and wetted surface construction time, i didnt bother glassing the hull,as the yare was an exercise on my way to building a strip kayak.

p.s. use high grade lumber with little grain run-out for the sheer clamps to avoid cracking ,uneven bending charachteristics,etc.

my starboard sheer clamp snapped 1 foot aft of the scarf and caused a deformity in the hull shape (rather unsightly and extremely dissapointing)so dont use 3/4 square lattice for your sher clamps.
