I may be coming in to this late. I'm not sure if your building strip or stitch and glue boats. But, on the boat I'm building here's what I'm doing for flush mount padeyes. I'm taking a block of 2x6 Western Red Cedar and cuting out eight square sections. I'm running them through the router table so I have a raised area that is roughly 3"x3" and raised by twice the thickness of the deck into which I'm mounting it( to account for the camber of the deck). I'm leaving at least 1" on all 4 sides of the raised area. In the middle of the 3x3 raised area, I'm routing an area roughly 1 1/2x1 1/2", and 3/4" deep. Then I'm routing a curved edge on this area and smoothing out the edge with a hand sand. I'm drilling a hole in the middle of this and mounting a stainless steel "I" bolt. Then I'm epoxying this piece from below into 3x3 squares cut into the deck of the boat. I'm doing this on a stitch and glue boat and it's coming out beautifully, but, having never built a strip built boat before, I can see how the thickness of the planks could make it tough. But it still seems like it could be adapted to work. Hope this helps someone. If you want pictures of my boat, let me know,it's coming out very nicely......Dale B.
