It can be difficult to get the boat smooth purely by adding fill coats. Particularly on the vertical sides. The weave tends to get telegraphed through the coats. If you do a light sanding after the first fill coat to knock the tops of any bumps w/o sanding into the glass, you will get a smooth surface much more quickly.
