I left the tops on my forms while stripping. I think Nick has said the tops aren't needed but I don't think he intended anyone to try and strip the recessed portion that way when he said it.

I thought the method of stripping up to the cutout portion, cutting out the hole and then stripping the recess (in my case with a darker color wood for contrast) worked very well and the hot glue idea makes it very quick and easy.

Be careful that it doesn't make your coaming much higher or you could have problems keeping your PFD from under your neck.

Post a message here if you give it a try. I'd like to hear how it works out. I think it would look pretty cool. (send pictures!)
