I built Nick's footbrace without the rudder feature, but the track is the same. Two pieces of 1/4" aluminum "C" channel facing each other comprise the track. The slider is a piece of 1/8" aluminum "T" channel, shimmed with a piece of 1/8" flat stock. Two small pieces of 1/8" okoume attach the brace to the slider, glued to the brace and screwed to the slider. The "C" channels have flat stock spacers front and rear, and they're screwed to the hull. The "C" channels are also bedded in thickened epoxy, similar to glass-bedding a rifle barrel. The epoxy doesn't adhere to the aluminum very well, but it creates a flat bed to lie on and a fillet on each side to prevent bending. A length of nylon sash cord attached to the slider runs back to a fairlead jam cleat just in front of the seat, glued and screwed to the hull, so it's easy to adjust on the fly. It doesn't weigh as much as the hardwood version, doesn't absorb water and won't swell. There is just enough slop in the fit that it's easy to adjust, but with foot pressure it doesn't click and clack around. Also, it's faster to make because there are no adjustment notches. It's infinitely adjustable, and welcome for times when you want to stretch your legs but don't want to make land.
