I have a set of small "trigger" clamps where you squeeze the trigger to clamp. While they were very helpful in traditional mode the can be reversed so that they expand rather than clamp. I used them in a variety of situations to hold the recess strips by pushing off of the strong back (for side strips) and the forms (front and back stips). Hot melt glue is probably faster.
