In the Tred Avon, the side panels do not exactly line with the bottom panels at the bow and stern where they intersect. The bottom panels are about 1/4" higher than the sides (with the hull upside down). This makes it easier to line the panels all up and stitch them. The gap is then filled with "dookie schmutz" to fair the entry and exit at the ends. Perhaps the Chesapeke is similar? I've had good luck with CLC on two boats, a Cape Charles also. I doubt the plans are wrong.
