Skin on Wood Frame

I recently found a wood kayak frame laying in the alley behind my house. I brought it in and started cleaning it up. it had some kind of styrofoam be tween most of the wood strips. After cleaning it up I inspected all wood and found only 1 long board and 1 cross brace neded replacing. That compleated I painted all wood with waterseal. I purchesed 4 1/2 yards of canves duct. Last night I stapled it on the bottom. It came out quite tight with out any wrinkles. I am stuck now. Should I cement the small amount of material above the staples to the frame, before applying the top covering? Thank you for any responses
