Some progress on the build

My mollusk went from a bi-valve to a gastropod over the weekend. That is something that any malacologist that builds kayaks will understand.  I will post better pictures once i get it done.

Nice looking kayak and always a pleasure to look up a new word.

How did you do the dark strips? If stain, any bleed issues? And what design?

Paul the dark stripes are thermally modified tulip wood.  It is actually slightly lighter and stiffer than cedar but it splinters more easily also.  The color is very stable so it won't fade like walnut.  The design is one of my own using kayak foundry.  The hull is a little less rounded than my prior builds.  The cockpit is a little on the spacious side I often carry a 500 mm lens and camera with me.  I am sure you will find a way to use the new word in conversations every day.
