| Kayaker, instructor, and kayak builder from Kalispell, Montana. I started paddling at a demo days in 1996. I couldn't afford to buy even a plastic kayak, so my brother and I built a pair of /Chesapeake 17's in 1997. I haven't looked back!
A /Guillemot 18 followed in 1999, and I was too busy enjoying it to think about building anything else for awhile.
| I started my /Cormorant 16 in December, 2000, and it followed me around through moves through 3 cities in two states, and I finally launched it in December, 2002.
I plan to do a major cockpit remodel on the Guillemot, and not knowing how long I would be without the use of my primary boat (or whether the Cormorant would fill its shoes), I bought a plastic VCP /Avocet 16 from a local dealer friend. It's not wood, but it is a really fun boat that rolls like a dream, and comes alive in rough water. It will inspire me to build a similar wooden kayak. I have plans to build a folding Anas Acuta this winter, as well as a Morris SOF, a Prospector strip-built canoe, and a Redfish? King. Aaah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp! I plan to travel to Greenland in 2005 to compete in the National Kayak League championships there. Safe paddling! Shawn
