I was measuring the wave height from the bottom of the trough to the top of the crest so my 10ft wave was 5 feet by your measurment. By any measure they were the largest waves I had ever been out in. When I was in college I was a life guard on the New Jersey coast. The day after a huricane would go buy off shore we would get huge waves that would close the beach. The lifeguards would all go body surfing. I remember my body taking a beating but having a lot of fun. That was 25 years ago and my body is not so flexable now.
: Quite a story. I admire your nerve, although I suspect that we measure waves
: differently. I have been taught that the height of the wave is to be
: measured as the distance from the midpoint between trough and crest to the
: crest. In other words half of what a wave looks like when it's about to
: land on you. A 10 foot wave measured that way is trully terrifying.: For a first timer to go through anything larger than two feet is impressive
: nonetheless. Good job!
