Quite a story. I admire your nerve, although I suspect that we measure waves differently. I have been taught that the height of the wave is to be measured as the distance from the midpoint between trough and crest to the crest. In other words half of what a wave looks like when it's about to land on you. A 10 foot wave measured that way is trully terrifying.

For a first timer to go through anything larger than two feet is impressive nonetheless. Good job!
