Hard to know where to start. As an aside if you want to do some whitewater stuff there are lots of opportunities enroute from Montana - ie: west Kootenays or closer to Vancouver there's the Chilliwack.
Ocean kayaking opportunities are virtually endless. Even downtown Vancouver can be fun - False Creek, Vancouver Harbour, Stanley Park or up the Indian Arm.
The Gulf Islands offer quite a variety as well as fairly sheltered waters. They even get a lot of sunshine and are easily accessible via BC Ferries. Spent a very enjoyable five days in the lower Gulf Islands in September.
On the West Coast, the Broken Islands are very popular. The Tofino area can offer whale watching in season and there's an overnighter to the hots springs if you're interested. And then there's Clayquot Sound .....
More whale watching is available in the Johnstone Strait area. Farther north in the Inside Passage also offers some truly remarkable scenery in pristine surroundings. BC Ferries will even drop you off in places otherwise inaccessible.
Like Rick says, try the folks at Wave Length - or try queries against some of the place names above. Enjoy!!
