I had the same thought, and I know it would be an awesome sight, but...

A few years back they blew the Asarco stack on the Tacoma waterfront. I got to watch from a sailboat and it was pretty neat. But there were hundreds and hundreds of other motor boats and sailboats in the area, and the water was incredibly choppy. We nearly got run over many times, and that was in a 30' sailboat. I'd really hate to be in those conditions with a kayak, and the big boats would surely block your view, so make sure you can find a shallow place where the boats don't go, and you can still see.

Sounds like a blast! Err..sorry 'bout that...
