EVERYONE except one that I could tell was in dry suits (the ones that went into the water. There were a lot of people just standing on the dock in street clothes). We all floated around like logs for a half hour or so. Brian demo'd different rolls and attempted several self rescues (he blew every one of them) before resorting to an assisted rescue.
The one dude in a wet suit and paddling jacket/pants (David?) was cold, but he hung in there for 30 minutes. When he first entered the water he was breathing real hard, but after his wet suit warmed up his breathing calmed down, but he was still real cold.
Folks then got out thier boats and did some self and assisted rescues. Chuck Sutherland gave me some tips for my Greenland style brace, which is getting to be pretty effortless. The salt water probably made it a bit easier also.
No one had warm hands. The search for the perfect gloves continues for me. My paint stripping playtex gloves over poly liners worked pretty good till the water wicked in. Even then they warmed up if kept out of the water. The playtex is excellent for picking up small objects (dexterity). I'm fairly sure I want to try a diving dry glove (rubber or kevlar) I've seen some with a fleece liner on the internet that might work well if they can handle the friction against my paddle.
When we were finished, and in front of all the people on the dock, I remained true to my legacy of exiting my boat near a crowd by falling out.
