Since I've learned that Greenland style bracing, that works almost as well for me to cool off inside the dry suit, and not have to get my face wet. Solves the problem of my glasses fogging and ice cream headache, yet still keeps me practiced up so that I could roll if needed.
The Y2Kold seminar the club is putting on next month should be interesting. By then I'm sure the water will be cold enough to deter my rolling. I hope I can find the right gloves by then. Someone on Paddlewise (I think) suggested the heavy duty black fore arm length rubber gloves, tied off with a rubber band. I think that will be my next attemt in my never ending search for the perfect winter gloves. You can get a dry suit with sewn in booties, why not gloves?
Lately I've been having some very weird things going on with my hands. I've been meaning to write about it, but keep forgetting. Sometimes when paddling, my hands get real cold, while other times they are nice and toasty. They can go from one extreme to the other and back again. Wind seems to have nothing to do with it. I'm beginning to speculate (sitting here in an arm chair) that it may be the speed that I'm paddling. When paddling slow, water tends to run down my paddle onto my hands, but if I paddle faster it doesn't. (I paddle Greenland style for those that haven't read my trip reports before) I should get off my butt and epoxy in some drip strings. I also had an idea to take a hole saw and cut little moon shaped cutouts on the edge of the paddle to create another place the water could drip off.
Anyhow, I want to prove my theory before doing anything permanent to the paddle.
