My hood covers my forehead. The only 'cold spot' was my eyes. Felt kind of like when you get a migrane headache behind your eyes. It's survivable for the time being, but when the water gets into the 40's or even (shiver) the 30's I'm a bit concerned.

Greg Welker and Jenny Plummer(-Welker) both swear by the beanie below. No protection for the eyes though. The velcro around the chin flaps let you pull it up out of the way when you don't need it. Greg mentioned the only thing he would change is the dorky looking 'mini visor'.
