I've seen some folks make a mount for the orange 2-AA cell lights(360 degree narrow beam) on the back deck. I'm with you about one of those over the shoulder, along with one on the back deck. The over the shoulder one can be flipped to the front if need be,the one on the back deck stays on. Then a VERY bright flashlight is attached to the front bungies and used only for signaling. And then a small 2-AAA cell light attached to the airhorn in the pocket. There might even be another light stuck under the deck. I used to paddle at night and found that having batteries(rechargable or not) run out on the return leg a paddle is cause for anxiety. There was a fellow marketing a 70 watt headlamp for nightime surfing, he said it was used only for intermittent use, and this was before Cateye's 20watt quartz iodine lamp.
