Do you mean premanantly mounted lights to the kayak, or those you can wear (like on a PFD)?
I have a light strapped to the back of my PFD for night time paddling and carry a headlamp in a dry bag just in case I'm caught after dark. The little light on my back keeps the light out of my eyes and the headlamp I can use if a boat is approaching or even if I just want to see what time it is.
Lights mounted on the kayak itself shouldn't be that hard to construct. There was a thread on Paddlewise a while back about using those new white colored LEDs. They can go for over a week on the same set of batteries.
I prefer the lights to be mounted on myself so they do not hinder me if I need to roll or scrunch down to go under a bridge or tree limb although I have been tempted to build in some LED lights into my yak. It would look way cool at night!
