hey Pete, It's been a while since I've felt like exerting myself hard enough to bonk,,I think it was two years ago with the cycling club,,sure felt like an effort much more than 65%(of what?). Any who, If one is cruising with effort and consuming enough liquids and calories then the bonk is held at bay, assuming the tank is full when starting off.
I'm hoping to get fit enough to bonk with elan. But it probably wouldn't be a good idea to lose this spare tire as I'm sure it's useful for insulation.
Riding with the Berkeley Bicycle Club in the early '80's it was entertaining the way we would look sympathetically at a another rider as he fell off the pack, booom! "looks like he bonked bad". Or from the other perspective, as one fades away to the back and beyond "see you guys later, I'm toast" then that "protracted misery" ensues. But, sometimes during that time the misery's pretty good. At least when the lactic acid gets taken care of, there are all kinds of colors and mysteries," is that tire really flat?" or the ever strange " is this an uphill?" Personally I find a certain comfort in this brain free zone of motion.
Today I was noticing that the pivot point for steering the North Bay was somewhere past my feet,"but why doesn't it weathercock more?" lunch, lunch, lunch, water, glide so slow
