> rotation. Another $.02This seems like a good way to think of it. I think that the idea of picturing the kayak in a more viscous liquid makes people believe that it will take a greater effort to move it. The only way for them to get the strength for the extra effort is through body rotation.
Now if you could get them to realise that without putting any extra effort into their stroke they can go farther and faster simply by using good technique. If their stroke is 75% efficient they can go faster and therefor further simply by increasing the efficiency. No extra effort.
