I don't recall if this analogy has been voiced before, but in classes I took, the instructor tried to encourage the proper rotation by asking us to imagine our kayak sitting in a lake of jello, and to propel the boat you planted the paddle and pulled the boat past the (imagined) stationary blade. For some reason this had the effect of producing more torso rotation. Another $.02
