A friend has been talking about doing this trip. It would be fun. The hardest part about the trip would probably not be covering the distance, but staying in the boat that long without stretching your legs. Bring a bottle to pee in. A reasonably inshape beginner should be able to handle the distance. The other problem is exposure. if the weather changes, you are a long way from safety.
