I put in a cigarette lighter adapter in parallel with the electric pump. My GPS can run about 20 hours on 4 AA batteries, so I'm pretty sure it can run a good long time on the 12v gel cell without having too much drain. Beats the heck out of replacing the GPS batteries every 3-4 trips (I leave the GPS on to record the track. It's what draws the black line in my trip reports).
In a pinch I've used the adapter to power my cell phone the one time I forgot to charge the battery before I left. Now if I can just figure out where to mount the depth finder transponder so I can avoid underwater obstacles 8^)
