Ed, I've read articles in scientific american and other popular periodicals about the probability of certain events. The thing that cracks me up is that one is more likely to get struck by lightening and bitten by a poisonous snake while kayaking than winning the lottery..or shark attack.ok,ok I made that all up. I have met the guy whose whitewater kayak was picked up and tossed around outside of ano nuevo. And even though that was real, I have some idea of the circumstances that increased his odds incredibly over the average paddlers, like being immediately within the area of a favorite shark food. I am guessing that you or I would be more concerned about the elephant seals were we in that area. You know getting pooped on by a sea gull is a worry when I'm out by rocks, has that ever happened to you? or a pelican? reeaaallll messy.
