pete, I have not seen a big shark fin while paddling

While paddling off of Ocrecoke in long off shore surf by myself and anxious about making it back to shore without getting crunched I saw a dolphin fin that I had no problem thinking was a shark fin. So don't take this as negating your concern but I think anxiety affects ones perception of reality.

There is a guy named Ken Kelton I believe, that was kayaking off Ano Nuevo during the birthing season of elephant seals, he is the only kayaker attacked by shark that i know of. The story is in Sea Kayaker somewhere. Around the campfire the story is just as scary, he was in a plastic river boat. I think water,waves and weather are more of a pressing reality than sharks.
