Ed,
Okay, stop me if you've heard this one!
A blind snake and a blind rabbit bump into each other in the bush.
The snake saya, "What are you?".
The rabbit replies, "I'm not telling because you might be my natural enemy and eat me!".
The snake replies, "How about if we feel each other and then guess?".
The rabbit agrees.
The snake feels the rabbit and says, " You are small and furry, have a little cotton tail and long ears, Hmmmmm!".
The rabbit feels the snake, and says "You have no legs and slither on your belly, you have beady eyes, are slimey and have a forked tongue, Hmmmmm!
The snake says, "I think you are a rabbit!!".
The rabbit says, "I think you are a lawyer!!".
Your point about responsible preparation for a trip is right on! This is the problem I have with cell phones in the wilderness. Many use them as their primary protection in the event of an emergency, instead of preparing properly. Lee's post about the guy who broke his leg and his buddies calling for aid on a cell phone is an example. He had two partners and they should have had a plan for such an event. The plan should have been implemented and only if all else failed should they have exposed the rescue crew to the danger of a helicopter extraction.
The downside of this is that I kayak and hike solo the majority of the time and I will have to live my beliefs if something bad happens!!
One other thing I want to add is that my math in the lawsuit equation was also wrong. The equation should read:
(IDT + GH)IWMM = I want money !!
Where: IDT = I didn't think
GH = Got hurt
IWMM = the I want my mommy factor
