pete, the point I would like you to consider is that the paying client or participating paddler is more likely to succumb to self-deception of their capabilities than a guide is likely to commit intentional deceptive practices that would endanger his clients. That's all , nothing malevolent or scary. I don't know what your experiences are paddling but sounds like you got something bugging you to conjure up these horrific scenarios.
