I must admit that I did not read the original post in the thread when I did my other posts and that they were simply in response to individual posts not the thread in general. I have now read the original post.

Why did an intermediate level paddler go out on a trip without a paddle float or a pump? Why would they go out without orientation, emergency proceedures being discussed or any of their questions being answered?? This would be a good time to turn on the old brain and THINK! If the guide told them that slitting their wrists to drain a little blood would make them paddle better, would they have done it?

Your math is wrong, I think, the equation is;

Didn't think + Got hurt = I want money.

I am not saying that what this particular company did was right. I am not saying that the paddlers are responsible for the gross and unforgiveable errors of judgement made by the guide. They are responsible for their decision to go on the trip with all these blatantly ignored safety issues. If one of them had said," HEY, I have a little paddling experience and it would seem to me that we should be given some orientation, proper safety equipment and enough food or else we're not going !", things would have been different. At the very least the paddler would have protected themselves from this situation.

However, the original post is excellent. It tells us of an experience that we can learn from. This is the response needed to help other people. We just disagree on a resolution to this problem. That's life.

Everyone has a point of view on the subject, a few of us air ours in this forum. Many more don't! Does this make my point of view more valid than yours? I think not. Your point of view is not right for me and mine is not right for you. Doesn't mean we can't debate it though.

If I offended you in any way in my posts, it was not my intention. Most things I say are in jest and shouldn't be taken too seriously. :-)

Happy paddling, Ian
