Sorry, I managed to misunderstand what Malcolm said. I wonder what he meant?

I think for kayaks sat phones are great. Integrating a PDA with E-mail you can do wonders, albeit at the limitations of the PDA. We use a sat phone with the laptop to dialog on trips. Same with reliable cell connection. On the other hand, being on a trip and being harrassed by work (synomymous with another four letter word like the one that begins with "s") seems to be the very thing most choose to paddle away from.
