Hey ya
: If I can get several hundred gallons of water out of the Sweetwater then I'll
: be happy with it. Incidently, the first time I used the pump it plugged
: after the first 2 liters of clean water produced. The silt was so fine it
: seemed slimey but I know the silt has much clay content and should appearClay, is death to a filter! The stuff also acts as a growth media too well. There's nothing you can do but inhibit bacterial growth. I often thought to devise a back filter means to pumps but that would introduce contaminants in the clean side, and the companies would have already done so long time ago.
: I'll need it more. The water down lower moves a lot slower and has more
: time to pick up and hold contaminents from industry.Well, yes and no. Chemical contaminants will go through the filter without being trapped. Where there's industry there's stormwater and sewage discharge. Adding a activated carbon filter element will trap some of the chemicals for a brief time, you'll have to recharge the carbon media to remain effective. The chlorinated HCs will zip though the wet carbon with little or none trapped. Still, Canada has many simliar industrial discharge requirements as the US and Europe, and the dilutional factor downstream of a plant would provide for a very high degree of mixing...I'd worry a lot more about the virus and bacteria.
: The insight and interesting thought aspect of mytrip report is coming through
: in the write-up I'm working on as I speak. I'm writing in great detail to
: get it all down. I'll sort through what I write later on then sift out the
: redundancies and post the rest. Should be good. I'dhave to say I have
: experienced some envy with your tripping around but only because you were
: doing it during hte winter months when I and other Canadians were sitting
: in front of warm fires wrapped in quilts. Hehe! Now that I'm out paddling
: to my hearts content you can tell me anything about you're great
: adventures and I'll think of one of my own to tell back to you. Nothing
: like a great exchange of paddling stories. Imagine how many free beers we
: should be able to pick up in a pub if we start telling the patrons our
: kayaking adventures. Hmmmm!I'm really looking forward to the write-up. Now the last thing I want to do is start this one-upping thing, or cause any unease or strife with others. If my trip reports are bothersome, I'll gladly stop posting them. I just did so because I thought this group liked them (recall my continual queries). I or Rikki send them to a group of family and friends, or to a group of aged and alone in homes who we've adopted via our charity work, and most importantly, to our extended family who are battling cancer.
