My poorly veiled argument wasn't intended as a personal attack, though I'll own up to being passive aggressive. What I was responding to was your flaming a business and individual in an anonymous forum.
The topic of responsibility is a good one. Greed and the seven deadly sins could be another. You can never be young again, but you can always be immature, I like that one.
Shovel in hand, here I go: I/you know this and that, ensuring ones own safety and that of others as best as one can might make it possible to not miss the "flowers" . Who knows maybe my greed and your anger can have fun paddling.
Lawsuits would not have helped me with injuries I have had or loved ones injuried or lost.
Your last comment is revealing, although insulting on the surface. The guide was required for the clients desires. The guide is not required to insulate the client from the consequences of their desires. After that, read what any liability waiver glued into a kayak or offered by a business, "KAYAKING IS AN ACTIVITY THAT INVOLVES RISK OF INJURY AND POSSIBLY DEATH" to paraphrase. One would get the clue that the person in the kayak is responsible for something other than writing the check. My generality comes out of the experience of people I have met that go out to play (recreational activity) as adults then expect someone else to pick up the pieces when the pain gets too bad. So a "victim" never deserves being victimized. But a recreational activity is play. So I'm saying in a general sense I hope people play responsibly. Know your limits, etc. So the next time I go to Club Med with you and I slip at the pool because there is no no-slip mat and crack my head? you got it bucko, it's my fault that at age 44 i don't know how to walk around slippery places. whew a little too graphic there. When my partner in biz was in a coma for two weeks from a severe head injury, a lawsuit wouldn't have helped me deal with his change in personality or convalescence. The nurse helped. A lawsuit certainly wouldn't.
Sure, I could imagine telling someone their spouse died, just as I could tell a friend how their child got hurt while in my care.
