: Weird. My post got chopped in the middle!
Got it! Less than! Don't use the less than tag!
Anyway, if air temp + water temp is less than 120 (in F) then you need a wetsuit - or so they say. Well, I didn't have one on. I was quite close to shore - much closer than 50 yds, er, most of the time! And, I could have done a self-rescue at the capsize. I might have had to have left the paddle-float outrigger on and paddled with my hands - but it was doable.
The most important thing I remember about cold water is that you want to get out of it as quickly as possible. So, I'm right there with you. And I will get gear before doing anything on open water. (Probably. Most likely?)
Thanks for the concern!
cheers!
charles
