Hey ya Cool Guy!
: Oof! Well, heck, if you'd been there you might have laughed at me, too.
: That's ok - I can take it! We've all got to learn sometime and I have no
: illusions about my level of skill!C'mon, you're well on your way to becoming a salty sea yakker. Confidence is the first thing, and you have that. Getting the skills and experience just means more practice, which hopefully means more trip reports from you to all of us of the KBBB's great pleasure.
: LOL! I'm sure to have more than my share of experiences like the tail end of
: that tale than like the start for a while! That's ok - I'll get my own
: chance to be stellar some day!Well, I was thinking I was following in your footsteps.
: ! Surf? My carefully hand-built kayak?? In Maine??? The surf usually ends
: pounding on the rocks! Sure, the plastic tubs have a ball out there, but
: they say that the other wooden 'yaker in the club just sits away from
: shore and watches. Ok, ok, I'm just giving you a hard time. I've already
: gotten a few good-sized scratches on her and, heck, I didn't even get to
: ride in the first one before destroying her. If the worst happens - I can
: always make another one! It's easy enough!Whoa, first one? Now in this lies a story. What happened?
: Anyway, just crossing 1/2 mile of open water is about all of the insanity
: that I can take for right now!Tell you something, I have good days and bad days. Some days no matter what you do, you just aren't in the groove, other days it's perfection. One thing, one skill that I can't stress enough is developing a bomb-proof roll. Doesn't have to be perfect form, but one you can do in bad seas. With that your skills and confidence will soar. Trust me on this.
You know, I've made four yaks, improving the design each time but I kept the first one for myself, it was my first one when I was just learning what I was doing...being beat and banged is part of the honor, the marks of having fun. But I'm preachig to the choir. I surely got a kick out of your trip.
Mike
: Thanks and cheers!
