I'm familiar with the Greenwich beach case, and you are right, it was focused on access to the beach from the shore side. I think the beach in question was Tod's Point. A few years earlier someone tested the law by "invading" the beach from the water side. I belive they were not allowed to land, although they were OK as long as they stayed in the water. I don't know if this was at high or low tide.
