for what it's worth...

Hey Wes,
I bought myself a bag with Polargard, ( I think ) after pawing through countless books and posts. I was looking for small, lightweight, and cheap. I ended up with a 35 degree bag, that packs down to an amazing 6"x 12" in the stuff sack it came with. Possibly smaller with a compression sack, though I haven't tried. I think I paid about $76.00 for it.
It's not the warmest bag, but with socks and sweats, I am comfortable at 35 - 40 d's. Like somebody else said, I'd rather give up a little space and still be warm if things get damp.
Anyway, you should be able to find a bag that suits your needs and fits into most hatches, unless of course, you're somewhere that it's REALLY cold.
My $.02. SYOTW,
Rick
