> Jack, another thing you can do is make sure that your and your kids boat always have some kind of easily deployed line besides the around the waist tow belt system (which is the great). I have a perimeter line on my daughters boat that is 5mm (3/16")nylon kernmantle that takes a half minute to untie and pull through the nylon straps I use as pad eyes. Also on my mariner is a doubled length of line that goes between the front steel loop in the bow and the cleats in front of the coaming. It is a available as a grab line, line for stirrup, painter, or short tow line. If your coaming is tall enough you can have a line always attached to the coaming and looped to the bow and back, cleated off for immediate use. I've given up on that for a belt tow line. For light use and non-emergency situations you can use a non-shock corded tow line and attach it to your coaming or around your waist(horrors!,.... I said non-emergency use)
I find the best use for the small day hatch that I installed on the back deck is for putting stuff like this away or having extra lengths of line.
