There should be no functional difference between a compass for a kayak and any other boat compass. Compasses intended from boats are almost all intended for being read from behind. The main difference is probably size.
Look for a compass that you can read from the distance and angle it will be placed away from your cockpit. Other than that, as long as it points north, it should work.
