>Robert, Since sea kayaking is different than white water river kayaking, the object of the roll is to come up first time bombproof. Speed is not an important consideration. Having your paddle near the surface for bracing and sculling is important at the end of a roll.
I always teach my students an extended paddle screw or extended paddle pawlatta roll. It is easiest and the most reliable. Once you learn it you can play around with other rolls and if you don't get them, you can still roll up with old reliable rather than bail out.
These rolls leave you in a much better position after you come up to handle the waves than the C to C with the paddle deeper in the water. You can also reverse your sweep and scull up at the last to save a "not quite" roll.
The greenland paddle is much better suited for a sweep/sculling type roll than a deep diving paddle roll. Hope this helps.
